Gold 2

June 30, 2009

This morning she came up to me with a big fishbone, head and tail, in her mouth and gave it to me!! I must have done the right thing when I just walked home and let her stay outside. I am really happy!

Gold today!

June 29, 2009

Two mornings in a row I have had a big fight over big bones of fish that are all over the places we walk by the sea. I was so angry my ears drummed because she did not come when I called to change for titbits as she usually does. I threw the leash at her but she just bounced away. I started home lika crazy without looking for her. Then I went inside and peeped through the windows. She came running and I didn’t open the door for a while and then ignored her for a time until I was  calm again. Next day, exactly the same!! I was prepared now so I tried once to call her and then went home with speed! She couldn’t come in for a longer period of time. Today she found a huge terrifying skeleton and she was 10 m in front of my, staring at me. I shouted LOSS and she let it go!!! I had good treats ( I guess she knew that) to give her. I never thought she would do a thing like that becuse it is such a reward for her to find, and then cheek me with running away!! But after what happened to Aila last summer I ‘m really scared of big fishbones. Otherwise she is not particularly good at any training for the moment. Hope it is the heat! I try to mix the rewards and she works much better when I play a lot before training.

Tomorrow at the puppycourse we will train a bit of “gossiping” and then try to teach them to bark on command. I am not going to do that because then I will have to press her a lot to bark, and I can do that later if I need it.

Last day for the competion course

June 25, 2009

DSCN3926DSCN3928DSCN3934Yesterday was the last meeting with the course about how to perform in competitions to get top results. Not my thing yet but I have learnt a lot and I don’t feel it is so out of reach for me to compete with Ami.

You can see Gunilla and her Laponian herder Iller, Annsofi with Doris and her aussie Thea and Annloice and Sparven. Carola and her two dogs had to leave early unfortunately.

Ami was really wild and wanted to play with the other dogs, but she calmed down when we were inside. Last time at the puppycourse  we started to try out ¨skvaller¨. Very interesting, I will work with that and with walking on leash now. The book ¨Nya kontaktkontraktet^by Eva Bodfeldt explains really well how to make it work. So Ami , be prepared to work for your food!

Otherwise we are going to the beach every morning. Lots of fun. Ami jumps the rocks, runs along the shore like crazy and then dives into the water…

Today we are thinking about Åsa and Vazy when they are going to compete! Good luck!

Ami is five months today and she was swimming for the first time…

June 20, 2009

This morning when we were out birdwatching Ami threw herself in the water from the flat rock, near the beach. She swam straight out towards the birds and it was deep! I called her and she made a u-turn back. Oh, how she loved to swim!

Today it is sunny at last so my aim is to stay home and do some training on the lawn. We are supposed to train sit-stay and down-stay. tomorrow we are showing off at the class!

We had a nice midsummer’s eve with Aeris and Molly. We trained some come and down on the walk. We had good food and the dogs played a lot.

puppyclasses

June 14, 2009

Now we have been to two puppyclasses. Ami is supergood with contact, walking on heel and especially the  come! She runs like crazy and jumps to sit beside me! She is one of the youngest but she is the best, she loves to train.

She has fallen in love with a yellow ball, carries it around a lot. Today she got it for me when I was searching it in the garden muttering to myself: Where is the ball … She ran away and came back with it, and it was a long time since she lost it.

Her favourite pastime when we walk and sit by the sea is still birdwatching. She is perfectly still for a long  time, only moves her head to follow the birds movements in the sky and in the water. Then she goes into the water and starts to  dive! She puts the whole muzzle under water, and then blows out bubbles. She does the same with the water in her bowl too. Sometimes her whole head is under water. Is she crazy or not???

She gets too exited when she meets people and dogs. She thinks everone is her best friend and tries all her tricks to be able to say hello and jump like crazy. I learnt a trick today at the class,  to hold her standing between my legs and when she wants to throw herself forward you lift her head from underneath and at the same time press her into sitting position with the other hand. Then when she sits you caress her alot. I will try that next time.

On Tuesday we are going to Luleå and walk in the city center. She needs more socialising in cities with a lot of people. Hopefully it won’t rain…

BIS 2!!

June 8, 2009

Ami BIS 2 puppy, she is the best!

The exposition went very well to say the least! Monika and Aeris won the BIS (best in show) and I and Ami came second, BIS 2. We couldn’t believe our eyes when suddenly we were the only ones left!! We got good prizes as well apart from the honour!

I am really proud of Ami (again)! She got BIR and an honour’s prize first. She did a better trot that time and she could stand still for a long time. In the finals she jumped a lot when running , but as you can see in the picture she did it very well for a short while! And the standing is perfect!  The judge said she was a promising puppy with good angles, good breast, good fur. And that she is as alert and lively as this breed should be!

It was raining, snowing and even hailing but at the finals the sun came out!

Suddenly expositions don’t feel so boring any more!!!

Thank you AnnLoice for the pictures. Super photographer!

I am proud of Ami!

June 5, 2009

Ami is really an amazing puppy!  Yesterday we went to town to try out the new technique when  walking on leash. She did it the whole time. As soon as she felt a small pressure she came back and made eyecontact! We went into the florist with a lot of people and very narrow isles, met kids, lot of people and cars an she didn’t fail. Then we went into the park and that went well too!

On our walk in the woods I made two squares where I left a toy, and she was wild to search and come back with it. Then I tried to throw the ball in among the blueberries and then let her go to fetch it. Sha managed every time to come back with it. We have a lot of fun on our walks!

She is still very tough with Aeris, and bullies her a lot! We let them play a bit but then we have to separate them. Ami is so physical in her approach and Aeris is so much smaller. But Aeris is in no way meek, she gives Ami a fight. Unfortunately that only triggers Ami! Well we will see how it develops.

We had a “nature” experience as well! We were resting (that means me resting an Ami running like crazy) at a small beach when a pair of “småskrakar” came swimming only  app. 5 meters from us. They swam back and forth in front of Ami who just stood there in the water gazing at them for several minutes! Then another male came and there was a fight! Ami just stood there immobile and watching through it all!!

She is an “observador” as they said in Portuguese about Joakim , my beloved grandchild, when he was a baby!

Tomorrow is the exposition!

Puppyclass one!

June 2, 2009

We were only two  at the course due to a misunderstanding. But that was like a gift! Kamilla was very good and helped me with a techniqe to walk with Ami on leach. And it worked. Then we practised some come, and she is sooo fast andruns in the same speed by me and  jumps to my side and sits! Hope this will continue!

I look forward to next Tuesday!

New blog in English!

June 2, 2009

DSCN3891Because some of my extended family and som efriends don’t speak Swedish I will write in English.

Just now I have been training two small squares for Ami to look for and retrieve a toy. She did it at once both times. Easy ones at first of course, bur she came back too. We are also traning the “stand”for the exhibition on Saturday, which she is really good at now. Korgen is the name for her cot and I am training her to go there and to stay for a short time befor I release her. And also the target. Today she manage to to do it with a piece of paper too . I have used several targets. I don’t know which is the right to choose for the future. What do you use? She is really a fast learner and loves to train. She loves the heelwalk too! Tonight att the puupyclass I guess she will not be able to focus. Whenever there is something interesting around she pulls the leash like a maniac! We will see what happens.
